The 54th South African Chinese Easter Tournament was held in the city of Port Elizabeth, known as the Friendly City, from March 29 to April 1, 2013. Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Cape Town, Mr. Liang Shugen was invited to attend the event.

At the opening ceremony speech, Consul-General Liang offered warm congratulations and greetings on behalf of Mr. Tian xuejun, Chinese Ambassador to South Africa. 

Liang said, over the past 50 years or so, the annual Easter Tournament becomes not only a sports event but also a festival for the Chinese people in South Africa. It serves as a platform for them to get to know each other and to deepen fraternal friendship. It also helps to demonstrate the fine traditions of the Chinese people to strive for the best and to realize their goals. The Consul-general wished all participants well and the Tournament a complete success.

Liang also praised and thanked the Chinese community for their continuous efforts in promoting the friendly relationship between China and South Africa.
