The China Week opens in University of the Western Cape

On April 13th, China Week was launched at University of the Western Cape (UWC). Consul General Liang Shugen, Prof. Tyrone Pretorius, Rector and Vice Chancellor of UWC, Mr. Ghalib Jeppie, Director of Department of the International Relations of Ministry of Higher Education and Training, Mr. Hu Jianhua, Chairperson of Cape Town Association for the Peaceful Reunification of China and Ms Wu Changhong, President of Western Cape Chinese Students & Schloars Association, representatives of the Chinese community and enterprises and professors and students of UWC attended the opening ceremony.

Consul General Liang Shugen extended his warm congratulations on the opening of China Week at UWC. He said that the bilateral relationship between China and South Africa have always maintained a robust one since diplomatic relationship was established. And fruitful results were achieved through co-operations between the two countries. Mr. Liang also indicated that, last year, the Year of South Africa was held in China. The Chinese people enjoyed very much the charms of the rainbow nation. With this year as the Year of China in South Africa, he is fully confident that the friendship and mutual understanding between China and South Africa will reach its new height. Mr. Liang also thanked UWC, the Chinese Students and Scholars Association of UWC for the efforts in organizing this event.

In their speeches, Professor. Pretorius, Director Mr. Jeppie and Chairperson Mr. Hu also congratulated the opening of China Week and they highly praised the efforts by many people who bring up the idea and make it into reality. The China Week will serve as another bridge to facilitate and enrich the friendship and mutual understandings between the peoples of the two countries.
