On July 26th, Consul General Kang Yong sent his congratulations to Cllr Xola Pakati, Mayor of Buffalo City, Eastern Cape Province, over the signing of sister-city MOU between Buffalo City and Yubei District of Chongqing city, China.
In his letter to Mayor Pakati, CG Kang indicated that Chongqing is a key area in linking China and other countries under framework of the "Belt and Road" initiative by China. He believes a close relationship between Buffalo City and Yubei District of Chongqing will bring more opportunities to both sides and yield concrete achievements.
Yubei District is one of 19 metro districts under Chongqing city, which is located in southwest of China. The district is 1450 km2 in land size and with population of 1.6 million. The GDP of the district in 2016 is about 260 billion rand. Chongqing is one of China's four direct-controlled municipalities under the central government. Chongqing has over 30 million population and its GDP in 2016 is 3.5 trillion rand.
