China's Magic Weapon for Poverty Eradication

President Xi Jinping announced on 3rd December that China has accomplished its poverty alleviation target of the new era as scheduled, marks that China has achieved the goal of eliminating absolute poverty 10 years ahead of the poverty-eradication schedule set by the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and become the first country to achieve the poverty alleviation goal set in the UN 2030 Agenda.

Through the past 8 years of sustained work, China has lifted all rural poor population under the current standard out of poverty and nearly 100 million poor people have shaken off poverty, removed all poor counties from the poverty list, and eradicated absolute poverty and regional poverty.

Since the reform and opening-up, over the past 40-plus years, more than 800 million people in China have been lifted out of poverty, contributing more than 70 percent of the global reduction in poverty.

China's significant victory in poverty alleviation has provided a solid foundation for achieving its first centenary goal, that is, building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and greatly enhanced people's sense of gain, happiness and safety.

Targeted poverty alleviation, which was first put forward by President Xi Jinping in 2013 during an inspection tour in the Hunan province, is the magic weapon to win the major victory against poverty in China.

The core concepts for the targeted measures of poverty alleviation is "helping the real poverty,helping the poverty really". Different from the extensive measures of poverty alleviation, targeted poverty alleviation focuses on tailored poverty alleviation measures for poor families, aiming to reduce the poverty more efficiently by directly helping every poor family and poor individual.

The targeted measures include four contents, accurate identification of poverty, precise measures to household, and accurate management and precise achievement assessment, and the targeted poverty alleviation strategy includes five categories of policies, industrial developme.
