In the evening of Feburary 3rd 2006, the Consulate General of P.R.C in Cape Town and All African Peaceful Reunification Association Cape Town Branch held the Spring Festival celebration performance of Fujian art troup at the former City Hall of Cape Town. About 800 people, including Consul General Mr Weiqiang Shi and other officials from the Chinese Consulate, local officials, some members of the Consular Corps in Cape Town, and the Chinese Community etc., attended the performance.
In the opening remarks, Mr Weiqiang Shi extended warm welcome to the artists of Fujian Art Troup who had traveled more than ten thousand kilometers to perform in Cape Town. Consul General Mr Shi also made a brief review of the development of China, especially the Sino-South African relations in 2005. In the aspect of public security, Mr Shi indicated that social security situation in South African still can't be regarded as optimistic, the Chinese Government, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in SA had attached great importance to the security condition of the Chinese community, and repeatedly urged with relative South African Authorities to punish the criminals as soon as possible. In order to ensure the safety of life and property, the Chinese community also need to enhance the consciousness of security and the ability of dealing with potential danger.
Remarks were also made by Mr Eddy Lee Pan, representative of Chinese Community, chairman of Western Province Chinese Association, and Ms Biyun Fan, head of Fujin Art Troup.
In the performance, wonderful programs such as dance, musical instrument, singing and acrobatics were performed and warmly applauded by the audience.
