Consular authentication refers to the authentication of the last signature / seal of the local notary/authentication authority on the notary documentation by the diplomatic/consular representation of the other country.
The purpose of the consular authentication is to have the notary documentation of one country recognized by relative authorities of the other country without doubt of the authenticity of the signature/seal of the documentation.
Consular authentication only authenticates the last signature/seal of the solicitor /notary organ / official and organ of authentication making no reference to the contents of the document.
Any South African documents, which need to be used in China, shall go through the procedures of being notarized by the local solicitor/ provincial tribunal and authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs of SA respectively, and then authenticated by this Consulate General. The Consulate does not accept any requests for direct notarization of any South African documentation.
1. Procedures a. Documents firstly shall be notarized by a local solicitor or by provincial tribunal. Please refer to the solicitor/tribunal for details. The Consulate General does not recommend any solicitor to the applicant. b. The notarized document shall be brought to the Departments of Foreign Affairs of South Africa in Pretoria for authentication. c. The authenticated document by the DFA shall be brought to the Chinese Consulate General for authentication again.
2. Requirements Applicants are required to submit the following materials to the Consulate General: 1) One legibly and completely filled out Application Form for Authentication or Notarization. (Download the form) 2) The original and copy of passport/ID of the applicant. 3) If the applicant is a Chinese citizen in South Africa, the original and copy of the South African Residence Permit are also requested. 4) The Original and a copy of the complete documents to be authenticated. Photocopy includes the page authenticated by the DFA, the page notarized by a local solicitor or by court and the original document.
3. Pickup and Fees
"Civil" refers to marriage status/ birth and death/ identity/ experience/ relationship/ economic guarantee etc. "Commerce and Property" refers to business registration / legal man qualification/ credential / accordance of employment, power of attorney / heritage/ donation of the property/ cession and transaction of housing etc. We accept cash only. Other payments are not accepted.
4. Notice 1. According to the international practice and relative domestic regulations of China, the Consulate General only authenticates the last signature of the authorized official and seal of the Department of Foreign Affairs of South Africa, bearing no responsibilities to the contents of the document. 2,Please be noticed that documents should be in original shape when submitted. Applicants should not take apart the original documents (notarized or authenticated) or stitch some other pages to the original documents, and should bear all responsibility therefore aroused. 3. Except for the authentications of marriage status/non-penalized/ deposit /existence /residence/ official rank which are valid for 6 months, other authentications do not bear any validity limit.
