From 21 to 22 June, 2006, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council of the People's Republic of China was in Cape Town, legislative capital of South Africa, on an official visit to this country at the invitation of South African President Tbabo Mbeki.
On the afternoon of June 21, 2006, Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with President of South Africa Thabo Mbeki, and signed the Cooperation Program on Deepening Strategic Partnership between China and South Africa and attended the signing ceremony of a number of documents on bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas such as economy, trade, medicine, health, quality inspection and culture. Then they met the journalists together.
On the afternoon of June 21, Premier Wen Jiabao also met with Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces of South Africa Mninwa Johannes Mahlangu, as well as major members of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces. After the opening ceremony of the first China-South Africa Business Cooperation Forum, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council of China left Cape Town to continue his African tour for Tanzania, South African Foreign Minister Dlamini Zuma, Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Liu Guijin, Chinese Consul General in Cape Town Shi Weiqiang and some staff of the Chinese Embassy and Consulate went to the airport to see him off. |
