On March 2, 2007, Chinese Consul General SHI Weiqiang met with the Executive Mayor of Cape Town Ms. Hellen Zille.

Consul General Shi introduced Chinese great progress and challenges in the area of economy, society, human rights, democracy and legal system. Mr. Shi also elaborated Chinese Government's policy on Taiwan issue as requested. Mr. Shi wished that Hangzhou and Cape Town make full use of the exsisted sister-ship and consistently develop the friendship through substantial exchanges and cooperation. Ms. Hellen Zille agreed on Mr. Shi's opinion, she said that the Cape Town Municipal Government would actively develop the relations with Hangzhou City and visit China at some time convenient to both sides.
