Celebration Reception for the 57th Anniversary of theFounding of the People's Republic of China

In the evening of 29th of September, the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Cape Town held the reception at Table Bay Hotel to grandly celebrate the 57th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. About 300 people attended the reception. Among them were Minister for Community Safety of Western Cape Province Mr. Ramatlakane, members of National Parliament, consular Corps in Cape Town, representatives of Chinese community and Chinese students in Cape Town.

Consul General Mr. Shi said that in the past 57 years, especially since the Reform and Opening up to the outside world, China has achieved tremendous progress which drew the world's attention. And China will fully implement a scientific outlook on development, continue to promote economic restructuring and change of the pattern of growth, always put problems affecting the vital interests of the people high on our agenda, intensify all aspects of the effort to build a socialist economy, promote development of the country politically and culturally and create a harmonious society.

Mr. Shi also indicated that Sino-South African relations maintained the trend of steady development in 2006. In June, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao successfully visited South Africa, which greatly strengthened the Strategic Partnership between China and South Africa.

Mr. Ramatlakane, Minister for Community Safety, highly praised the great achievement made by the Chinese people. He also encouraged more Chinese investment in Western Cape.

A Chinese photo exhibition was also on show during the reception.
