On 28^th of September, Consul-General Mr. Shi Weiqiang hold reception to celebrate the 56th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Minister of Health of Western Cape Province, Speaker of Western Cape Province, Speaker of Eastern Cape Province, Members of Parliament, people from provincial government, from business, culture, education sectors as well as members of Diplomatic Corp, representatives of local Chinese Community and Chinese students attended the function.

Consul-General Mr. Shi Weiqiang mentioned in his speech that in the past 56 years, especially through 27 years of reform and opening-up to the outside world, China has made great achievements in its modernization drive. However, in the meantime, China's economic foundation is still weak and the development is uneven in different regions. An open and prosperous China will make more contributions to the world peace and development. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1998, Sino-South African bilateral relations have witnessed comprehensive, fast and profound development. China and South Africa are both developing countries, there are many aspects for the two countries to learn from each other.

 Minister of Health of Western Cape Province Mr Pierre Uys, in his speech of reply, thought highly of the great achievements made by the Chinese people. He said that rapid progress of mutual cooperation between China and South Africa has been made in many fields. Also cooperation between Western Cape Province and her sister province-Shandong Province has been deepened constantly. As friend of China, South Africa would grow up together with China by sharing experiences and lessons with each other.
