Honorable Mr. Ronnie Kasril,

Honorable Chief Mandela,

Ladies and gentlemen, friends and guests,

With great pleasure, my wife and I with my colleagues from the Chinese Consulate General in Cape Town join you in the cultural evening of fine arts and music. May I ask you to join me to give Dabing Chen of Chenshia Arts and Culture Ltd. a round of applause for his endeavor to organize the cultural event by brining artists of China and South Africa together with their works.

Geographically, China and South Africa are world apart. Naturally our two peoples are linked heart by heart. Today, Chinese and South African artists, through vision and brush, have shortened the distance of about 13,000 kilometers, making us closer and closer.

As I am speaking now, President Zuma of South Africa is on his way to Sanya of China to attend to third summit of the BRICS countries. The BRICS countries will play a bigger and more positive role in international affairs for world peace and development. China and South Africa will co-operation more closely. This has reinforced the foundation for further and stronger bilateral relationship between our two countries and our two peoples. It will bring about more trade, business, education, science and cultural exchanges. 

Just now we appreciated the paintings, murals and sculptures for a visual feast and later we will have pieces from operas and instrument music for an audio feast. Above all, they will, through our eyes and ears, mingle in our heart.

In conclusion, I offer the following lines:

Art, art, it is from the bottom of artists’ heart.

The more you create, in more exchanges you will take part.

From the history of human civilization, you will never depart.

Towards the crystallization of a harmonious world, you will for ever dart.
