Chinese Consulate General celebrated 67th Anniversary of the People's Republic of China

    On 27th September, the Chinese Cosulate General in Cape Town hosted a reception celebrating the 67th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. More than 200 guests from National Assembly, Western Cape provincial government and parliament, City of Cape Town, SAPS, local Chinese community, business and academic participated the function. Mr. Cedric T. Frolick, House Chairperson of National Assembly and Ald. Ian Neilson, Deputy Executive Mayor of Cape Town delivered congratulatory messages on behalf of National Assembly and City of Cape Town.

    In his speech, Consul General Kang Yong highly praised ties between China and South Africa as well as between Chinese local governments and governments of 3 Cape Provinces. He indicated most recent progress over bilateral relations, such as increasing number of Chinese tourists to South Africa, the launch of construction of BAIC SA manufacture base in Nelson Mandela Bay, Hisense SA becoming top brand in South Africa in terms of TV and refrigrator. Mr. Kang also emphasized the importance of local Chinese community in enhancing exchanges between the two countries.

    Guests of honor in the function also included Ms Mmatlala G. Boroto, House Chairperson of National Assembly, Mr. Francois Beukman, Chairperson of Portfolio Committee on Police of National Assembly, Mr. Piet Pretorius, Deputy Speaker of Western Cape Provincial Parliament, Mr. Dan Plato, Minister for Community Safety of Western Cape Provincial Government, Mayco members of City of Cape Town and Ms Bernadette H. Brown, Consul General of Swiss Confederation and Dean of Cape Town Consular Corps.
